Scandinavia Russia Cruise Tour Shore Excursion (cont)
The group saw part of the old Berlin Wall in Berlin. The remaining part of the wall was fenced off to keep tourist from spraying graffiti. The original path of the wall was identified with brick pavers. We also visited the World War II Allied Museum, the place where Check Point Charlie and the Brandenburg Gate were located. We also shopped the huge KaDeWe department store. One of the travelers had spent most of his teen years in Berlin. The Allied Museum was located where the base theater used to be and he pointed out where he had sat in the balcony with his dates. He was also pleased to see much of the old structures in Russia, Germany and Scandinavia were preserved and left intact.
The last stop on the cruise was Copenhagen, Denmark where we had a city tour and saw Tivoli Gardens, and the famous Little Mermaid By the Sea. Hans Christian Andersen wrote Fairy Tales which inspired the carving of the Little Mermaid.
We flew from Copenhagen on Scandinavian Airlines on a plane with cameras in the cockpit and in the belly of the plane where we could see beneath. Flying over Greenland we saw icebergs and other scenery. Arriving at Dulles Airport in Washington, DC after 7 hours in the air, we had to wait another 5 hours before our flight to Charlotte arrived.
