Vacation Reviews
Key West, Florida
February 11,
2008 – Key West, FL- Diane B. while sailing on the Radiance of the Seas –
Western Caribbean Golf Cruise
Today we
arrived into
Key West around 8:00 a.m. and decided to
disembark the ship and explore downtown
Key West.
We exited the Radiance of the Seas around 10:00 a.m. and proceeded
along Front Street.
The first thing you notice is the beautiful aqua marine colored water
and the gorgeous buildings along the dock.
Exquisite shops and art galleries adorn the streets as well as bars,
pubs and eateries. On the
grounds behind the Westin Hotel is a sculpture of nudes that one cannot miss
as you walk towards Front
Street.
The flavor or the city is immediately evidenced by the trolley’s
going constantly with tourists doing a tour of the city.
The trolley ticket booth is very evident as you walk up Front Street and the
tours run 1 ½ hrs to 2 hrs. and give you an overview of the city.
They take you past Hemingway’s home, Gardens and many historic homes
of the city.
We proceed to Duvall Street which
is the main street of Key West
and is loaded with shops, bars, and restaurants.
Of course we have to go to Jimmy Buffet’s Margaretville and have a
Margarita which is absolutely the best Margarita I’ve ever had.
Frozen with salt --- yum
yum. Of course the music is
going strong while in the restaurant and it is only 11:00 am.
We walk back to
the ship and go into the Clinton
Shopping Mall to sample the freshly made Key Lime Pie and it doesn’t
disappoint. Delicious!
There are benches along the way where you can people watch and enjoy
the beautiful Florida
Sunshine.
The beaches in Key West are very few as
compared to most beaches. Their
coast is rock lined and you do not see the typical beaches for miles.
There is one small beach that you can go to but I’d suggest you do
beach in another location.
Key West’s claim to fame is their beautiful sunsets
which are absolutely beautiful.
We get back on
the ship and set sail for Cozumel while
enjoying the beautiful colors of the water here and the sailboats in the
background. A beautiful quaint
city where chickens roam the islands, people ride scooters and bikes, golf
carts can be rented by the hour, tours are plentiful and a very worthwhile
place to visit.
